5 Stars A great cordless phone for not too much money
We bought this one to replace an old Radio Shack unit that was starting to wear out. Initially we were looking at a Panasonic unit that offered call blocking, a feature we wanted to stop those annoying telemarketing calls. After some searching I found this unit, which also offered the call blocking capability. After some serious comparison shopping we opted to go with this unit, which so far we have not regretted at all. It’s relatively easy to set up, although the directions leave a bit to be desired in my opinion. We bought an additional unit for this and all three remote units easily synched with the base unit. One unit did have a totally dead battery in it, but it quickly recharged after being left on the charger. We can’t begin to say how much we love the call blocking feature. It’s remarkably easy to add a number, either when it’s ringing or by searching through the call history. Suddenly our house is much quieter now and we can actually get some peace and quiet knowing this unit is stopping those pesky telemarketers. The one feature I wish it had is a lighted push to talk button. If you pick up the phone in the dark you can’t tell which button is the one to push to answer it, which can be kind of annoying if you’ve been woken up to answer the phone. While the keypad is lighted, it would be most helpful if the other buttons were as well. We’ve also found the battery to last a long time, which is refreshing given the fact that our old Radio Shack batteries were starting to wear out. Overall we’re very happy with this new unit and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a phone that has lots of features, a good price, and nice styling.

5 Stars Great Value in a Cordless Phone
The DECT2185-3 cordless phone system, like most of Uniden’s phones offers the consumer great value for the money.

This phone set has a 70-name directory capacity with each handset having the same or different contacts (your option. It’s extremely versatile. Most manufacturers only offer a 50-capacity directory with all handsets sharing the same contacts.

Although the DECT 2185-3 includes 3 handsets, you can add an additional 3 for a total of 6. Each extra handset (DCX210) is a very reasonable $29.99 each.

Other plusses include excellent sound quality, 8 ringer tones, most of which are melodic–not harsh tones. If you want the Star Spangled Banner as your ring tone, this phone has it!. A lighted keypad and base and battery display are also included.

Only negative with this phone is that a larger LCD screen would make it even easier to read, especially for someone with visual impairment.

If you are looking for a cordless phone set that offers features as opposed to style, this is one to consider.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Better than other DECT phones
It shows up CID right after the first ring, while the Panasonic does it after two rings. The Uniden 2080 does not show caller’s name even if the CID is already in the phone book, while my Uniden 1560-2 does! Panasonic is the worst, it scrolls the name and then the phone #; plus, as I just said, it takes one more ring to get CID. When you finally see the caller’s #, it is too late, the answering machine is activated.

Although I like the idea of normal AAA NiMH batteries, Panasonic stupidly force them to be charged in the stock charger only. If you put a pair of fully charged batteries into the Panasonic, it keeps saying (via voice) “charge it for 7 hours”, until you put the handset into the charger for a while. This defeats quite the point, you still cannot charge the batteries and swap them.

This Uniden uses a battery pack, but the battery chamber is huge (designed for AA). I bought an AAA battery holder from RadioShack and, after some modifications, put it into the handset. Now I can swap NiMH batteries and never have to put the handset back into the charger. Love it. You cannot do this with Uniden 2080 that has a very small battery chamber.

Sound is loud and clear. The Panasonic has annoying background noise. Oh, you’ll love the big transparent back-lit keys with superb tic arc feel and the letters are printed underneath – they won’t wear out. The rubber key bars on 2080 are garbage.

Some other features worth of mentioning: you can copy phone book entries from one handset to other handsets. You can inte’com or page any or all other handsets and transfer or conference a call. You can make calls private to other handsets. You can assign 8 personal rings for different callers. Voicemail indicator and button, pause button, mute button, speakerphone button and redial 5 numbers.

If you don’t need the answering machine, the Uniden 1560-2 sold for $29.99 from your local HomeDepot stores is a steal. If you need more than 2 handsets, you can buy two 1560-2. You can also use any DCX150, DCX200 and DCX300 handsets, but each cost $30. Although you can use 2080’s handsets on 1560, they still won’t show caller’s name that’s already in phone book. You can register a handset to multiple bases; so there is no problem to use two or more 1560-2 for a single line (i.e, extra bases are used as chargers only). If you like, you can use them like multi-line phones which are very expensive.

The only thing missing is headset jack, which I don’t care but may turn down some people. One other concern is durability. My 900MHz Uniden just died after a year of light use. That’s why I’m in this market and this time I looked at the Panasonic first.

4 Stars Exceptional Sound Quality with Ok Construction
The sound quality is exceptional. The phone and base construction is ok, not as substantial as older Uniden and Panasonic phones, but the sound quality and features more than make up for this deficit. In this price range, you are getting a very good phone.

5 Stars We’re Very Pleased.
Electronic items never cease to amaze me. Our widescreen TV is only four years old and a better model of the same size now lists for about half of our original cost. Likewise with phones. We bought a two-station Vtech cordless phone about 4 years ago for 80 bucks. When the batteries needed replacement after two years, they cost over a third of what the original phone (with batteries) had cost! Well, the batteries needed replacement again. This time we looked around and found this new Uniden Phone System (DECT1580-2) for only a little more than what new batteries for the old Vtech phone would cost. Simply amazing! Well, we tossed the old phone, of course, although it would probably still work well given new batteries. Now the next question might be whether this was the right thing to do.

This Uniden phone works fine. Everything about it seems better than our old Vtech wireless phone. Plus, it has an answering machine and the old one didn’t. It clearly seems to be a superior phone in every way and the cost was markedly less. Now, the next test will be to see how it holds up on a long-term basis. So far, we’re very pleased with our new wireless phone.

4 Stars Nice phones for good price
Compared to other phones with the same characteristics, these phones have a very good price, but they do have a couple of problems.

I do get a bit of interference depending on how “far” I am from the base, which should be normal if I lived in a big house, but not in my case which is a medium sized apartment.

Another bad thing, compared to Panasonic for example, is that each phone is independent with it’s caller id and phonebook: if you add a phone number on one, you have to manually copy it to the other phone, or if you view missed calls on one phone’s caller id, they will remain on the other phone and you’ll have to erase them again.

The last problem worth mentioning is that the speakerphone sometimes dies. I haven’t figured out what really happens, but the sound sometimes just mutes, and after you move the phone it’ll sound again. I don’t think it’s a cable or something loose, because it happens with both phones.

Features are nice, answering device is nice.

1 Star Worst phone
I purchase one of these phones and I only got it to work once sive that time it get on searching for the based. None of he steps in the booklet work. this is an terrible buy

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star No Headset Input or Belt Clip Allowed
You can’t plug in an external headset (there’s literally no female input on the handsets). Also, you can’t attach a belt clip to the handset either.

5 Stars Great phone!
I have no problem since I bought this phone. The intercom works really good and I like the different ringers for callers. In other words, it has most of the features like a cellphone. And the batteries last a long time before it needs another recharge. I feel safer that everyone in my house has a phone in their rooms.

5 Stars Great product
Great product and the price much cheaper than in stores.

Recommend it for anyone.

3 Stars Nice phone but has one big problem
The sound quality while conversing is excellent but the ringer tone is too low, even when it’s on “High” and we miss many calls. Another, less important problem, is that there are only seven ringer tones, and out of them, three sound very similar (I’ve had older phones that had over 15).

5 Stars Excellent cordless phone
Although this is my first cordless phone but it meets my expectation. It has very good battery backup and nice voice clarity as well. i’m using this for international calling and always feels like local calling as excellent voice quality.

I love it.

Uniden DECT 6 0 Corded Cordless Digital Answering System with Three Cordless Handsets DECT2188 3

41k BWAFzoL. SL75 Uniden DECT 6 0 Corded Cordless Digital Answering System with Three Cordless Handsets DECT2188 3

Sleek, lightweight design fits easily into a shirt pocket, or clips conveniently onto your belt with the included belt clip. Simply connect the base to a telephone jack, and up to 8 handsets can be supported without additional telephone wiring. Satellite handsets require only AC power to become a fully functional cordless extension.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Two Steps Forward One Step Back
I have been waiting a long time to get some Dect offerings comparable with my 5.8Ghz Uniden system I used to have, the TRU8888. Unfortunately I gave my system to a friend when I switched to VOIP and in anticipation of the new Dect technology. What a mistake! Reluctantly I settled for the Dect 2080 and waited. Now for this phone.

What I love about this system is the combination corded base and cordless handsets. Why you ask, because most of the time I prefer a cordless handset. That is until I’m at my desk on the internet while making a business call. Then I love being able to dial from the base and place calls on speaker. Fabulous feature that I have sorely missed. I love that Uniden changed the back lighting from the unattractive orange to a very pretty blue. The price is great for basically getting four phones. I like that the sound quality and battery life are good. Another fantastic feature is that the message indicator works both with voice mail and the built in answering system. Overall pretty impressive…..until…

Now for what I don’t like. The fact that you must delete an entire number even if only to change one digit is RIDICULOUS!!! This has been a pet peeve of mine since I obtained my first Uniden system and I am angry that they haven’t bothered to fix this problem yet. Seems so trivial. Maybe this is your first cordless expandable phone system or maybe you’ve only ever needed to replace an entire number. Well, imagine this. You have decided to stop getting ripped off by the phone company and decide to switch to VOIP. There are numerous providers from which to choose, but not all of them require that you dial the same way. Some offer seven digit dialing while others offer ten digit dialing, then there are those, like my provider that require eleven digit dialing (you know, 1-area code-number). When I switched to my VOIP provider I had to literally erase all of the phone numbers in the phone book and reenter them to include the extra digits. This task is especially painful because, unlike those of you who might not have used this type of phone before, I have, for many years. I couldn’t even tell you one of my friend’s or family member’s phone numbers. We get a number, put it into a handset, then copy the new entry to all the other handsets. I am lucky to recognize an area code. It would be a very simple matter to enable the touchpad to go left or right when entering numbers so as to edit them. You can do this with the names. Why not with numbers? Why???

Another annoyance is the back lighting on the handsets. Only the numbers, * and # are back lit. All of the other very important buttons are rendered invisible in low light or dark conditions. I use my phones very often in low light conditions. I have to press buttons until I finally find the one I’m looking for. Why not just turn on the light? you ask. Imagine this. I’m sitting comfortably on the lounger watching a movie. One cat is sleeping happily on my lap while another sits right beside me and yet another has crawled up onto the bolster pillow resting his precious head on my arm. Across the room on the other couch my husband has also been conquered by his two favorite kitties. Wow, we’re hungry, let’s order that pizza real quick. I grab the phone to make the call and have to fumble around until I find the right buttons. Or you’ve started the film and gotten comfortable only to then notice the message waiting indicator flashing. Pause the film and let’s see who called. But wait, I can’t find the message key because it isn’t back lit. You get the picture. Annoying.

And now for the most hated things about this phone. Only seven ring tones! My old system had twenty. Seven is just not enough especially if you’d actually like to use the personal ring feature. These handsets also have no headset jack or belt clip. Now initially I thought of these features as something I’d never use, until I had them. The speakerphone is nice for getting through automated phone screening systems and conversing with more than one person in the same room. However it is most comfortable to use a headset for one on one conversations. It is easier for them to hear me and me to hear them without having to turn up the volume too loud. The belt clip is invaluable when cooking in the kitchen or when someone calls while your in the midst of completing a task. Before I could plug in my headset, clip the phone to me and walk about my home or yard as necessary. The fact that these items are not included in this phone system is shocking and uncomfortable enough that I may even return this to Amazon. I haven’t decided yet. I’m still loving the corded base. Then again I could just give up on this system and switch back to 5.8Ghz systems that are loaded with features and look good too.

*****UPDATE*****

I forgot to mention a very cool new feature on this phone that many of you might like. This system has the capability to block up to twenty numbers. How, you ask, could I have forgotten this? This feature is doubly redundant for me. I have used call screening devices such as Intelescreener and currently the Person to Person units. They offer much more robust screening capabilities. My current VOIP provider also offers robust call screening.

I did return the phone to Amazon. I tried to get used to the missing features but in the end just hated the handsets. It’s very unfortunate that Uniden appears to be lowering the price point on their phones by sacrificing features and conveniences that some of us are willing to pay for. I bought the Dect 3080-3 instead. It’s not perfect, but does have more features for about the same price. I will wait until Uniden has a refurbished 2188 base (or better) available and buy it. In case you don’t know Uniden allows you to mix and match bases and hansets within a given technology like DECT.

4 Stars Really good call blocking
This phone does a very good job when blocking junk calls. You may find that some repetitive junk callers simply stop calling after this phone blocks their calls. That has been my experience. The call block number list can hold 20 numbers. That does not sound like much, but the majority of junk calls I received came from only a few numbers. After a few weeks of use my call block list only includes six numbers.

Each handset maintains its own 70 number directory. Some people prefer a unified directory shared by all handsets, but I prefer that each handset has its own directory. It is easy to synchronize the handset directories if desired.

The only negatives I can report with this phone are in the areas of sound quality and handset batteries. The sound quality is somewhat inferior compared with earlier generation Panasonic systems I have used. The sound quality is acceptable, just not as good as the Panasonic system it is replacing. The handset rechargeable batteries are of a proprietary form, so when they wear out they must be replaced by batteries purchased from Uniden, unless another company produces a compatible version. I would rather have the handsets use rechargeable AAA batteries, which can be purchased from many sources at typically lower cost.

For me, the call blocking trumps the few negatives I mentioned. I could not be happier with the way the Uniden DECT2188 system blocks junk phone calls.

5 Stars Excellent clarity. Good package of features for the price.
This phone has worked well for me and my family. The caller id on the base and call blocking are nice extras. The sound is great. I am hearing impaired but I don’t have to turn the volume all the way up to hear people.

4 Stars Decent phone, some quirks
All in all a good product. Solid, durable, no major flaws.

The call block feature is better than several other phones, other phones ring once then block the call. This one suppresses the first ring, so no sound until caller id is shown. So blocked calls are just silent. Nice.

The base will work with a power outage! +++

Speaker phone good.

Some of the reasons for 4 rather than 5 stars:

Quirk 1. When you page a handset from a handset (the “find it under the couch function”) the handset you are holding rings (LOUD) as well. I have to stick the #*&*^!! thing under my arm so I can locate the missing handset. No reason to have the one your holding screaming!

Quirk 2. When you are using speaker phone on a handset, if you press talk (most phones you go to non-speaker phone handset) you just activated call waiting or hung up on your party. The base works like “normal” phones.

As the negative reviewer noted: There are several other quirks, all livable, all a pain. But the competition I checked had their own bugs.
