1 Star Horrible batteries!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
Fully charged, it will drain the power out of the battery drilling one 3″ hole with a hole bit through thin flimsy vinyl siding and thin 1/2″ osb; then it’s worthless. THe charger will often blink saying defective battery also. Just read the reviews for the batteries for these things! Needles to say I am returning the lemon. I also purchased the little in line 7.2 volt li-ion impact driver from makita and it is great, thank God.

4 Stars 2 Main Issues with this drill
I own one of these drills and we use 3 of them at my company for installing A/V equipment. It is a great light (and light duty) drill. Here are the 2 main problems you will have with this drill:

1. The plastic clasps on the case will come off (when in the open position). The clasps do not break, but can come off and need to be put back on. This may be a safety so that the clasps do not break, but you will need to make sure they haven’t come off before leaving a jobs site. My installers have already lost these on one of our drills – making the case worthless.

2. If you are in a tight spot and have to drill a hole while the chuck is rubbing on something, it will get mess up. The chuck is plastic and if you run it against something, it will melt and then does not free spool easily. It will still work, but makes it more difficult to change bits easily.

4 Stars Good drill for the avid DYIer
I purchased this drill after doing quite a bit of research for mid-level lithium Ion drills. I was reluctant to buy it since I have dealt with Porter Cable equipment for many, many years. This is actually the first non-PC hand tool I own. After trying the current PCs at the local hardware store I was disappointed with the overall build quality when compared to the Makita.

The drill performs relatively well. The 1.5ah batteries do not last as long as I believe they should based on previous use of nicads but since they charge so quickly and I was able to get a third battery for free with the purchase, it has made up for the frequent interchanging. If you were to use this commercially, you would have to have the 3ah batteries. Makita makes a drill for those folks so contractors would most likely not even consider this.

The drill is very light which is a plus. It also has the LED light which surprisingly is useful.

Overall I believe this is the best mid level drill for DIYers and even folks who do project work like I do. This might not be the cheapest but overall quality seems to warrant the cost.

I love this drill! I have owned 7 different cordless drills in the past (Panasonic, Dewalt, Milwaukee and older Makita’s). This is the best so far. Powerful and light weight. Great balance too. What more could you want from a drill? I also bought the impact driver BTD 144Z which is a 3-speed impact and is awsome! Takes the same batteries as the drill. A great combination.

5 Stars First Impression
I just purchased the drill driver so I cannot comment on battery life, etc. However, the overall design, size, weight, etc. is super. This drill has tremendous power. The batteries charge rapidly. Hope they last a long time! The drill does not include a clip to hold the most common screwdriver bits. The manual mentions an option, but I don’t have a clue where to get it. It should be included with the kit!

Very powerful for it’s size. The batteries don’t last quite as long as I thought they would but I’ve been putting a lot of load on them. All toghther this is much lighter and more powerful than any cordless drill I’ve ever owned.

This “little” driver was the best tool purchase I have made in years. Not only is it everything the description says it is you will be blown away how long and hard it will work on a charge. I was able to drive over 300 3″ 305 stainless screws with one battery.

I dont start a project without it in my hand. Well worth the money.

User Ratings and Reviews 3 Stars Lawn Mower The packaging on this product is totally insufficient. The first mower came and the rear axel was broken in two pieces due to shipping/handling. The box was opened due to insufficient packaging tape. Lucky the contents were all there. The second mower arrived in better condition although the box was badly torn and the inside of the shipping carton was damaged from the mower moving around during shipping/handling. The manufacturer needs to beef up the shipping container if they don’t want a repeat of this and more returns. Amazon.com was wonderful to work with to get a replacement. They provided for the return shipping/pickup and then ordered a new one for me. Great work Amazon! Saved a customer! Although, I would make it easier to find out how to get a replacement due to damaged merchandise a little easier to find on their website. A product returned for damage during shipping should be able to be replaced without having to wait four weeks for a refund. As soon as Amazon has comfirmation that the unit is back in their system (i.e., on UPS) they should credit the customer’s account so that another item can be ordered. 4 Stars An enjoyable way to go green I bought this mower last summer (2008). I call it my “magic lawnmower” because it’s so very delightful. It runs quieter than a gas-powered mower (but not a whole lot quieter), and it doesn’t smell of poorly-combusted gasoline. In all, I feel like it converts the chore of mowing the lawn into more of a stroll through the yard. I have two complaints: I got a warranty repair for the switch axle which others have explained is poor design. A (second) warranty repair of the switch fixed this problem. The cut is not particularly even. I often cut the same spot twice (or use a very narrow pass) to get it level enough for my taste. Another commenter noted that the key switch is flimsy for its purpose and I agree, but it hasn’t caused me any trouble. Some notes on the redesigned switch: The old switch is what appears in the main product picture today (2009-12-06), a red handle that you hold against the push bar with your right hand. For the redesign, the whole top half of the push bar assembly is redone. The bar is straight across rather than bent up. The main switch is a 2-step process – push a button in on the side and hold a small bar back against the push bar to hold it in place. The flimsy key has been replaced with a more substantial key shown in one of the official product pictures. The receipt for my second warranty repair says item 90551714 “Conversion Kit to Type 2A” was used to put the redesigned switch on my mower. When I discuss this mower with friends, a few items come up: 1) It still uses energy, so how does it help the environment? Economy of scale. Power plants, even burning coal, burn much cleaner than a 1-cylinder gasoline engine. Most of the smell to which I was accustomed from mowing is from burning gasoline, and everything you can smell is a volatile organic carbon – which is worse than CO2 for global warming. 2) How long does it run? I haven’t run it out of power yet. Once I forgot to plug it in after cutting the lawn, and it made it through two passes of about 25 minutes each. Given that I can cut the whole yard in about 25 minutes with a 19″ mower, you can surmise that it’s not a very big lawn. 3) Is it heavy? I don’t think so. It’s heavier than the $100 Murray I replaced, but it’s lighter than some self-propelled gas mowers I’ve pushed. 3 Stars Nice idea, bad design! Black and Decker Corporation has gone “Chinese quality” with almost all their products. This mower is no different. Read some of the reviews and do some research. I’m sticking with my gas mowers for now. If you want to determine a mowers “true” quality look at the wheels. If they use ball bearings the mower is top quality. Most mowers use wheels made from injection molded plastic which wears quickly. These have no place on an expensive mower. 4 Stars B&D 24 V cordless mower I bought this to replace the CMM1000. I had it for close to 12 years and use it from sometimes February to December where I use it to pick-up or grind-up leaves. When new, the mower may mow my entire lawn in the spring, but after the battery gets older, I need two days to mow it. This is OK since I wear out. This one advertises a full charge in 9 hours. If true, it is better than the close to 24 hours in the old model. My old one had two new batteries, new wheels, new side handles, and the motor re-packed once. It was time for battery, repacked motor, and wheels again. I have to drive 40 miles to the Black and Decker store to drop it off and pick it up again and take time from work to do this. (Store is open M-F, 7-5 PM) I’ve used the new one only a few times and not to fully drained power. I miss the power gauge the old one had. If this one runs like the other, I am satisfied: no oil, no gas, no winterizing, no tune up every year. I looked at other models and this seemed to have less problems. 3 Stars The on off lever broke after 18 months. I like the way the mower works, but the handle shouldn’t break on a $400 dollar machine. It’s pivot point is plastic and that broke off. Rather than go through the hassle of taking it to a service center I just drilled a hole and put a bolt through the pivot point and it works fine. When I complained to their main office they ignored the point about the shoddy workmanship and instead told me I had voided my warranty. I figured the jerks would do that. I told them to print out my reply in triplicate, wad it up, and shove it where the sun doesn’t shine.
