Black and Decker 9078 3 6 Volt Ni Cad Cordless Screwdriver

Cordless screwdrivers are a wonderful invention, but some jobs around the house still require that extra control a conventional screwdriver can provide. The 3.6-volt, three-position Black & Decker 9078 screwdriver combines the best of both. As a power screwdriver, the unit operates at 180 rpm and offers up to 40 in./lbs. of torque, with 24 settings. A torque control collar allows the operator to match the torque to the job, reducing unwanted strips. A pistol grip and three-position handle allow the screwdriver to fit into some pretty tight spaces, while a spindle lock (located on the forward/reverse switch) allows the operator to use the unit as a conventional, manual screwdriver when necessary. This is especially helpful when starting and finishing screws. The screwdriver comes with five double-ended bits. Each locks securely into place and is easy to remove. The handle is also easy to adjust with just the push of a button. All in all it’s a pretty handy little tool.–Carl Thress

5 Stars great product
best electric screw driver I have used. Mine is over 2 years old and going strong.Production use killed one after a year when the switch went from daily usage. This unit works better than the 6 volt ones so don’t get those .
Adjustable torque also works well.
4 Stars Durable
I bought the thing as a spur of the moment purchase. I ended up loving this little thing. Ive done major remoldeling jobs (my kitchen, and bathroom using it. Ive even used it to hammer things with, as a quick tool. I ve had it for over two years, and it still is going strong, except I did break off the end battery cover piece. I give it 4 stars only because I do wish battery life was a bit longer.
5 Stars 3.6v screw driver to be used to tune guitars
It works fine for what I use it for as long as I have the correct implement to fit the guitar tuning keys.

5 Stars Does the job.
I bought this for my wife’s framing business. It has plenty of power for this application and the battery life is very good. If you want to run a 4″ screw you may want to get a drill.
5 Stars An excellent screwdriver if you bear several things in mind:
This is excellent. For my uses, it has plenty of power.
In fact, that may be a disadvantage. For smaller jobs or for smaller screws, the screwdriver is more than capable of stripping the threads of the screw. The drill is not variable speed. It is either on with geared-down power combined with abundant speed, or it is off.
If you set the clutch “high,” be prepared for a wrist-twisting when the screw is seated, having turned as far as it is going to.
Read carefully and judge carefully before you make a purchase of this screwdriver.
Black and Decker has made a good tool here. If your jobs are little ones, take a look at variable-speed drills which are lighter and more easily controlled.

This 6-volt cordless drill/driver is ready to take on any around-the-house task with quick, efficient ease. 2 Stars Wanting a little more for the $
Not a bad product, but for what I’ve seen in the store at around the same price range or for a little more, I wish this thing was a little more appealing in the “looks” category and not so loud!
5 Stars A great tool for begginers
I love this screw driver. I use it for light household tasks and it is great. It is not fast which is good for me since I am scared of the fast drillers….
1 Star Once again: you get what you pay for.
This is a sad little toy. I was tempted by the price, and then had a good laugh, at my own expense, when I put the batteries in. It may still be a good value, though… as a paperweight.
5 Stars good little tool, although not for everyone
this is one nifty little tool! i bought it at target for around 14 bucks, and it’s worth every penny to me.
now people, this is definitely NOT a heavy duty drill, so don’t go expecting it to do jobs that are meant for a drill. i mainly use it for guitar repair and modification.
4 Stars A good low impact only solution
If you’ve got a low impact, repetitive turning task that needs to be motorized then the new Black and Decker 6 volt drill/driver might be just the tool for the job.
I’ve had mine for a couple of weeks now and it’s really helped to streamline my Avian Aqua Miser building process.
It takes 4 AA batteries and transforms the combined 6 volts of DC power into a surprising amount of torque. We found this one at a big box store for just over [...] bucks. Don’t expect to do any heavy drilling or screwing.

5 Stars Best. Tool. Ever.
I actually got this tool when I bought the 6-tool set that comes in a contractor bag. I really bought the set for the reciprocating saw, the circular saw, the grinder, and the “normal” drill. My attitude toward the impact driver was more or less, “eh, that thing looks pretty wimpy”. Well, that was two months ago, before I completely re-framed half of a house. This is now the most used tool I own. I can drive 3 1/2″ screws into studs and headers all day long, one handed. As long as I’m driving straight, I will never strip out screw heads with it. In fact, the worst problem I have is breaking bits. The DeWalt “Impact Ready” bits are the worst. I will sometimes break a bit after only one screw. That should give you an idea of the torque and power this thing generates! The good news is that I did find that, surprisingly, Kobalt bits seem to hold up very well for some reason. I can sometimes get 50 screws driven with one Kobalt bit! I’m talking 3 1/2″ screws into yellow pine, by the way. If you’re driving 2″ screws you’ll go all day with one bit. Get the Kobalts, though – they’re $13 for a box of 50 at Lowe’s. The DeWalts are something like $7 for 5 bits – which are good for about 10 screws total before they all break.
It may seem intimidating that it breaks bits, but don’t worry, my 97 pound girlfriend has no trouble at all using this thing. Really it’s unbelievable. There is simply no way to put into words how well and easily this thing drives screws. It seems impossible. The days of leaning into the back of a regular drill with all my weight, just to have the screw head strip out millimeters from being set are over!
I’m buying one of these for my brother for his birthday – it’s the best gift I could possibly give to someone that does any kind of carpentry or drives fasteners. Absolutely worth every penny.
PS. I know this review is over the top, and I’m sure there are other drivers that perform just as well, but my experience with this tool has been just great, so I wanted to share it with the world! Thanks for reading!
5 Stars All You Could Want In A Driver
Effortlessly drives wood screws without stripping the screw heads like a drill will do. Use the right tool for the right job and you won’t be sorry. I can sink 2&1/2″ screws all day long with a couple of spare batteries and this driver doesn’t tire out. Get yourself some elongated bits and this driver will fit into ALMOST everywhere you need to use it. For hanging cabinets though I use the Ridgid right angle driver.
5 Stars awesome
Finished an 800sq ft addition to our home. One of the best tools I had. It’s awesome. Quit looking at reviews and go get one.
5 Stars Contractor’s choice
As a professional, I require durability from my tools. This impact driver was awesome. I bought it because I already use Dewalt cordless tools and batteries, so for $100 I would have been stupid to not buy this. I just put in thousands of 3.5″ #10 exterior wood screws no problem, a hundred or so 5″ fastenmaster lag screws and forget about shorter lag screws. This thing literally saved me hours of labor, so it paid for itself. I am not looking forward to hanging some cabinets with it and finally being able to screw inside of a 9″ cabinet sideways.
5 Stars Tools
This is the one. Drivers are the way to go. Put your weight on it and drive it home.
