DeWalt DC9091 XRP 14 4 Volt 2 4 Amp Hour NiCad Pod Style Battery

Step up to the extra power of the DeWALT14.4-volt XRP battery pack. This high-capacity NiCad (nickel cadmium) battery delivers 40 percent more run time than standard NiCads. That means you can work longer—drive more screws, bore more holes—and spend less time swapping out and recharging batteries.
The XRP pack, which stands for eXtended Run-time Performance, will fit all of DeWALT’s 14.4-volt cordless tools and chargers, except its Univolt tools. Finally, remember to recycle your old batteries. –Joseph Truini

4 Stars Dewalt 14.4 volt battery
The price for these batteries was very reasonable compared to the full price. I would recommend these to anyone needing new 14.4 volt Dewalt batteries.

These XRP batteries are a lot better than the original battery if your drill was made after about 1999. My original batteries only lasted about 3-4 years on my new drill (purchased 2004). I have a Dewalt 14.4V I bought in 1994 and still use the original batteries. One word of caution, the XRP batteries will not fit in the older drill case whether on or off the drill because they are larger. The older case has a more molded appearance on the inside and is double wall plastic.
5 Stars DeWalt 14.4v NiCad replacement battery
I was disappointed in the DeWalt 14.4 volt batteries that came with my drill/driver. When one totally died during a project I sent my wife out to get a replacement battery. She returned with a NiCad version which I loved. It holds a charge extremely well and lasts much, much longer between charges. I was so impressed that I got a second one and recycled my remaining (operable) original battery. It makes using the drill much more practicle.
5 Stars DeWalt Battery
There’s not much to say it’s a battery, but so far it seems to be working great
5 Stars Great power, high output
Bought a set of DeWalt tools, which included two XRP 14.4v batteries and a charger over four years ago. I didn’t really use the set much until the last two years, when I suddenly had a couple of backyard projects. These batteries pack quite a charge, and provides plenty of power and duration, especially for the reciprocating saw and trim saw. Unfortunately, last weekend one of the batteries died out and wouldn’t take a charge anymore (it’s been on the wane for a couple months before that). I’m hoping the other one will continue to work, but now I’m stuck with only one working battery. I came nowhere near the advertised 1,200 charge/discharge cycles, so that was disappointing.
I’ve had these units for more than four years, so I can’t complain about one dying. While I agree that these batteries are excellent, and should be priced accordingly, I’m not sure they need to be quite that expensive. There are companies that’ll rebuild the battery pack, typically with longer-lasting sub-C cells, for less than the cost of a new one (but admittedly not by much). Based on trade reviews, the rebuilds either meet or exceed specifications, and I’m leaning that way not so much for the cost savings, but for the extended runtime.
So, in summary, these are absolutely great batteries. The NiCad technology is proven, dependable, and is suited well for high drain devices such as power tools. However, given the relative cost and simplicity of manufacturing a unit, you should be able to get more performance for less from a reputable battery rebuilder.
EDIT (12/04/2009): Bought a DeWalt DC9310 charger DeWalt DC9310 Heavy-Duty 7.2 Volt – 18 Volt 1 Hour Charger to replace DC9116 charger. The DC9310 was able to charge the dead DC9091 to ~12 volts consistently, indicating two dead cells. Battery is now usable again, but at 12 volts. While not ideal, it was good enough for me to effectively operate all the tools, thus extending the life of the battery.
Bosch CO18 18 Piece Cobalt Twist Drill Bit Assortment in Plastic Case

These Bosch cobalt drill bits offer superior heat resistance, plus a rigid thick web design for drilling in extremely hard or abrasive materials such as treated stainless steel (precipitation-hardened), cast iron and titanium.

5 Stars Good wood bit?
Does anyone know if these make for good wood bits? I know they’re excellent for metal work from the reviews, but i’ve heard mixed reviews that the steep angle on the tip makes the bits grab into wood too quickly, causing chunks of wood to splinter. Anyone know otherwise?
5 Stars very high quality
these are very high quality bits, they are sharp and they stay sharp. I notice they have a very steep angle to them which means that they attack the material rather rapidly.
5 Stars Bosch Cobalt Drill Bit Set
I purchased these bits as cobalt is better/stronger than titanium, and therefore should last longer. One bit was missing from the set. I called Bosch and they immediately send me a replacement.
5 Stars Cut through steel fast
These bits are fantastic. I used one 3/8 inch bit to cut 24 holes in 3/16 steel almost like it was wood — very fast. No sign of dulling. Excellent bits, but one small one was missing.
5 Stars Great Drill
It is a good-solid drill. A little on the big side, but still a good product.

5 Stars Light weight yet Very Powerful
This has to be the best hammer/drill/driver that i’ve ever used.
It’s power/weight combo is perfect. I could use this drill all day without being fatigued and the battery would keep on going.
Drilling 1 1/4″ holes with speedbore max bits does not pose a problem for this drill. It eats through lumber with ease.
This drill easily drills in 3/16″ holes in concrete (just as fast as our corded hammer drill) to drive in anchors and it doesn’t take much to drill up to an 1″ holes in masonry (not quite as fast as the corded but very convenient to not have a cord)
The added handle is NEEDED in most cases, with all the power it could easily rip the drill out of your hand.
As others have noted, i’ve experienced the “chuck wobble” but I’ve also noticed this on all of the other drills that my co-workers have, from dewalt to milwaukee, they all seem to have a little bit of wobble, maybe it’s somewhat normal in a hammer/drill/driver?
This drill has convinced me to purchase alot of other 18v lxt makita stuff and all of it has proven to be great stuff. From the recip. saw to the new btd144 impact drill, plus the LED lights on these tools comes in handy quite often!
Makita > all others.
4 Stars The right tool to choose compared to other wimpy drills
I’m a contractor and have burned thru many tools over the years including cordless drills. After doing all the research on specs for various other drills this seemed to be the one. So far this drill has been flawless and perfect with no complaints. Our company gives these tools a true workout every day and all of our techs love them. The specs on the 454 model is worth the extra [...] bucks versus the next model down, specificaly the extra tork is what you want. I would at this time recommend this tool to freind. Jim
5 Stars Super Drill
After reading numerous woodworking reviews which identify this drill as the “drill to own”, I recently went to one of the big box stores to check it out. Surprisingly, I found that it is on sale now for significantly less than Amazon’s current price. It weighs less than my old 14-Volt Dewalt drill and seems more balanced. Fit and finish are superior. Power to spare and agile enough to handle my cabinet making.
4 Stars MAKITA BHP454 LITHIUM HAMMER DRILL
I’ve owned many hammer drills for my general contractor business.
The Makita BHP454 Hammer Drill is very good quality but has one major failure same as but worse than my Hitachi Hammer Drills: The key-less chuck spits out the drill bits and screw driver bits when you release the trigger.
The electric brake stops the motor quickly and the inertia of the chuck loosens the jaws and the tool drops out !!!!!!!!!!! This is a major annoyance.
I’ve called Makita and they do not have a keyed-Jacobs chuck as a replacement.

2 Stars for real drill power get a rotary hammer drill
Based on the reviews we decided to give this drill a try and in general for light duty use the Makita cordless tools have been fine. For Tapcon holes this drill is barely adequate but OK. For anything more it is better to get one of the Bosch rotary hammer drills as 1/4″ is really the limit for the Makita.
For general hole cutting it is adequate but not able to deliver as much torque as the DeWalt DCD970 which is our present favorite for light hammer drilling heavy duty hole boring. The Makita with its lithium-ion battery overload protection will seem to stall when it is probably the power being cut to the drill motor. The 3-speed Dewalt gearbox is more effective in letting the operator match the power range to the job. The DeWalt battery pack also charges twice as fast as the Makita.
Others have had problems with the Makita chucks but so far this is not something we have encountered. There is a self-tightening aspect to keyless chucks and some will overtighten to where pliers are needed to loosen them and remove the drill or arbor shank, while others, like the Hitachi will not tighten enough to hold small drill bits without them slipping.
SE 30pc Diamond Bur Set 1 8 shank

1/8″ Shank, 2 Class Diamond Titanium Coating. Use for ceramics, tile, glass
User Ratings and Reviews
5 Stars Great Product
Very high quality. Much better than a name brand diamond burr I purchased at the hardware store (one of which cost 3x what this entire set cost).
4 Stars Diamond Bur Set
The burs are fairly sturdy. If grinding and shaping remember to keep moist with water or lubricant. Otherwise you rip off the diamond surface (did this, not thinking). Some of the finer bits break easily, but the rest do the job.
5 Stars Efficient for crafts
I bought this item to use for my jewelry craft items. With these bits, I can drill small holes through seashells, beads & glass without chipping. The bits work perfect in my Dremel tool. The diamond part does wear down after drilling a lot, but for the price I think it is a great deal & it gets the job done.
5 Stars 30 piece burr set
This is a very good product. 30 is a lot and it covers all you could need. I work with silver and have a drill stand in the club and often need different sizes so this was ideal.
Packed very well to be able to see just what one you need at the time.
5 Stars Super Nice
I have just started learning to engrave, and had been using the accessories that came with my rotary tool, but then I got this set and they are pretty much all I use now. So many new options have been created since getting this set. I highly, highly recommend this set for anyone in the engraving craft.
