DeWalt DC9091 XRP 14 4 Volt 2 4 Amp Hour NiCad Pod Style Battery

41s5 ujDG7L. SL75 DeWalt DC9091 XRP 14 4 Volt 2 4 Amp Hour NiCad Pod Style Battery

Step up to the extra power of the DeWALT14.4-volt XRP battery pack. This high-capacity NiCad (nickel cadmium) battery delivers 40 percent more run time than standard NiCads. That means you can work longer—drive more screws, bore more holes—and spend less time swapping out and recharging batteries.

The XRP pack, which stands for eXtended Run-time Performance, will fit all of DeWALT’s 14.4-volt cordless tools and chargers, except its Univolt tools. Finally, remember to recycle your old batteries. –Joseph Truini

What’s in the Box
One rechargeable 14.4-volt XRP NiCad (nickel-cadmium) battery

4 Stars Dewalt 14.4 volt battery
The price for these batteries was very reasonable compared to the full price. I would recommend these to anyone needing new 14.4 volt Dewalt batteries.

5 Stars Vince
These XRP batteries are a lot better than the original battery if your drill was made after about 1999. My original batteries only lasted about 3-4 years on my new drill (purchased 2004). I have a Dewalt 14.4V I bought in 1994 and still use the original batteries. One word of caution, the XRP batteries will not fit in the older drill case whether on or off the drill because they are larger. The older case has a more molded appearance on the inside and is double wall plastic.

5 Stars DeWalt 14.4v NiCad replacement battery
I was disappointed in the DeWalt 14.4 volt batteries that came with my drill/driver. When one totally died during a project I sent my wife out to get a replacement battery. She returned with a NiCad version which I loved. It holds a charge extremely well and lasts much, much longer between charges. I was so impressed that I got a second one and recycled my remaining (operable) original battery. It makes using the drill much more practicle.

5 Stars DeWalt Battery
There’s not much to say it’s a battery, but so far it seems to be working great

5 Stars Great power, high output
Bought a set of DeWalt tools, which included two XRP 14.4v batteries and a charger over four years ago. I didn’t really use the set much until the last two years, when I suddenly had a couple of backyard projects. These batteries pack quite a charge, and provides plenty of power and duration, especially for the reciprocating saw and trim saw. Unfortunately, last weekend one of the batteries died out and wouldn’t take a charge anymore (it’s been on the wane for a couple months before that). I’m hoping the other one will continue to work, but now I’m stuck with only one working battery. I came nowhere near the advertised 1,200 charge/discharge cycles, so that was disappointing.

I’ve had these units for more than four years, so I can’t complain about one dying. While I agree that these batteries are excellent, and should be priced accordingly, I’m not sure they need to be quite that expensive. There are companies that’ll rebuild the battery pack, typically with longer-lasting sub-C cells, for less than the cost of a new one (but admittedly not by much). Based on trade reviews, the rebuilds either meet or exceed specifications, and I’m leaning that way not so much for the cost savings, but for the extended runtime.

So, in summary, these are absolutely great batteries. The NiCad technology is proven, dependable, and is suited well for high drain devices such as power tools. However, given the relative cost and simplicity of manufacturing a unit, you should be able to get more performance for less from a reputable battery rebuilder.

EDIT (12/04/2009): Bought a DeWalt DC9310 charger DeWalt DC9310 Heavy-Duty 7.2 Volt – 18 Volt 1 Hour Charger to replace DC9116 charger. The DC9310 was able to charge the dead DC9091 to ~12 volts consistently, indicating two dead cells. Battery is now usable again, but at 12 volts. While not ideal, it was good enough for me to effectively operate all the tools, thus extending the life of the battery.

Two good batteries for a good price. The NiCad’s have always worked well for what I use them for so I can’t see paying twice as much for the lithium ion batteries.

1 Star Short Life and Way too Expensive
This is worse than replacing ink-jet printer cartridges !!! (could be debated)

My second pair of 18 volt XRP batteries quit working, and they are not quite two years old!

They have not been abused and have been properly maintained and charged. I even use Dewalt’s reconditioning charger on them every so often.

Dewalt ! ….these batteries should cost at least 60% less considering their longevity!

Now, do I spend another $120 on two batteries that have 18 months of productive use … or Buy the Hitachi Pro 18v Lithium Cordless drill, w/2 1.5ah batteries for only $159 …hmmmmm

2 Stars Very Short Life and Too Expensive
I own a lot of 18V DeWalt batteries(NICd) and tools (about 7 drills, 3 or 4 reciprocating saws, rotary laser level, 3 cordless nail guns, etc.). Most of them are dead. Some of them are less than 2 years. All of DeWalt 18V batteries discharge very quickly by themselves without using (less than a week after fully charged). I understand none of rechargeable batteries last forever and there is a life span. But comparing to other brands, DeWalt batteries are the most expensive and last less. Last year I bought a 18v combo set (drill, circular saw & flash light w/2 batteries) of Porter Cable at Lowes. I think it was less than $100.00. It has been a year. I don’t take this one to the job site because all of my cordless tools are DeWalt. It has been in the garage for more than a year. I have not recharged battery yet after fully charged on the date of purchase. I have been using it occasionally, but it is still very powerful almost same as the fully charged on the first day. It is very hard for me to change other brands of cordless because I already have too many 18v DeWalt. I agree with most of negative reviews. Before I place this review, I have thought a lot whether I am wrong or I expect too much. However, DeWalt batteries are too expensive and don’t last long comparing to other brands. I use these tools almost every day as a professional carpenter. Early this year I bought a combo set of Lithium 18V DeWalt, drill & impact. It is still working good same as new one. I wish to buy another DeWalt 18v lithium battery only, but too expensive. It is better to buy a full set with batteries.

I wish there are some generic brands of these batteries or DeWalt makes its price lower.

5 Stars Great product- works very well
These batteries are MUCH better than the previous generation. My drill had more power than it ever had! Great price and well worth the money. [...]

2 Stars be aware of the dates on these batteries
these bateries are working fine, however the date on the batteries is 2008 this could make for a big problem with dewalt when you try to get them to honor there 3 year manufacture guarantee?????

5 Stars A great charge for my drill from Amazon
Having killed the old battery of my Dewalt drill this was a perfect replacement and for a lot less money than what Home Depot was selling them. It works great and keeps me in holes. I can still create a hole and fill it.

Thanks,

Lynwood Prest

1 Star HORRIBLE
If you use the batteries in different chargers(chargers with the same model number), it will kill the battery. I bought a drill set with charger, and it worked well enough for a while, but when the drill started getting worn out, I purchased a replacement drill kit. Same model number, thinking I would now have twice as many batteries. The new charger just killed the old batteries. This has happened with other kits that use the “Same” charger as well. Same charger, same model number.

I will no longer buy DeWalt products. I am replacing them as they wear out with Makita products which are lighter, cheaper, and the batteries are far better.

5 Stars Dewalt DC9096 XRP 18 Volt battery
The batteries arrived on time and replaced the old style batteries. I have one of these already so I know they are better than the old style.

4 Stars Battery
DeWalt battery doesn’t seem to be much different or longer lasting than less expensive portable tools provide and yet this battery is more expensive.

5 Stars Good deal
I was worried the battery would be out of date but”new in the pack”

Relived to see an aug.2009.Would have liked to have been shipped by ups

but arrived before shipping date.Great job Amazon !!!! as always.DEWALT DC9096 XRP 18-Volt 2.4 Amp Hour NiCad Pod Style Battery

5 Stars Good Price, Great Tool
Delivered in an ugly box, but as promised, great tool at a good price. Will deal more with this vendor.

5 Stars Best drill I’ve had yet. and I’ve had every brand.
I’ve worked construction for more than 10 years and I have had the 3 major brands: Milwaukee, DeWalt and Makita. And I can say that the Makita has come out on top for innovation, ruggedness and usability.

Milwaukee has reliable stuff but the Cordless drills are way too big, heavy and clumsy. I had them early on and found the tools very clumsy and too heavy which If you have to use a tool all day long, which I do you start getting worn out. Even their impact is heavy. Like I said the stuff never breaks but makes your arm gets sore after using it for a while. The V18 is the best thing they have but they haven’t updated all of their tools to the modern standards of today. When I was looking the only thing that was out was the V28 which was extremely heavy and expensive.

Dewalt has gone downhill I’ve seen more people change from Dewalt than from any other brand. My Dewalt drill’s gears kept stripping out. so I go rid of my kit and that’s hard to do since I had so many Dewalt tools. another thing is they don’t have Lithium technology. They did but pulled it because of problems which I can see being very possible.

I bought the Makita LXT kit when it first came out and realized quickly that this brand is what I was looking for. It was a combination of lightweight, innovative and tough. I haven’t had trouble with any of my Makita products except for my Charger which was screwing up my Batteries (which I took to the Makita service center and they replaced the charger and batteries with no problem. I Bought this BHP452 Drill 6 months ago from an online auction since you can’t normally buy it by itself just with a kit. I use it every day and have had no problem with it yet and I treat it very rough. I use it for drilling out big holes with my step drill (which normally takes a toll on drills) I use the hammer drill all of the time and use it to drive all size of fasteners. Another great thing about this drill is you can get into small areas and there is a light for dark areas which in construction you don’t have good lighting. This thing is a work horse. The Drill shows no sign of wearing down. This is the best drill I’ve had and like I said I’ve had them all.

I did also try out Panasonic but it seemed more of a woodworkers drill than a construction drill so that stayed at my house. It was a good drill but not for the every day abuse that you give your drill on a construction site.

2 Stars good drill, crappy batteries
This drill is very light for the power it has. I like it very much. PROBLEM IS THAT I’VE GONE THROUGH 5 LITHIUM BATTERIES THUS FAR. I’ve had it a little over a year. The repair guy said Makita hasn’t mastered the Lithium technology yet. Once, both batteries were bad right out of the package. I’m now down to one battery, and trying to talk my repair guy to switch out the batteries ONE MORE TIME.
