I have a Makita cordless drill. Back about 6 years ago when I purchased the drill, it came with a factory rechargable "Japan Made" battery. When I needed to replace the battery, it cost 50.00 and is now made in China (it’s labeled PA09 9.6 v 1.3Ah) It is not holding a charge. It’s useless to spend .00 on a battery when I can purchase a new drill w/factory battery for about 0.00 Makita make. I’ve had it for just 2 years. I’d like to know if there are other rechargable batteries for cordless tools made in China that are having the same problem. I can’t find a site to inquire or see if this is an ongoing problem. I’d like a refund or a better replacement.

1 Star good saw – when it works
saw works fine.

as advertised, it will leak oil all over the place where ever it’s left.

after one cycle on the battery – battery is dead and will not take a charge. saw is now worthless.

5 Stars a women’s best friend!
wow! the product was fantastic and works extremely fast to get the work down.it’s easy to replace the chain, when it pops off. i have arthritis and it did not put pressure on my joints if you use it as directed, . the limb came down so fast, it surprised me. i would recommend this product for anybody especially single women!

4 Stars Keep your expectations reasonable
The buyer must bear in mind that all cordless electric tools have power and stamina limits that gasoline powered units do not. If you need an 18 inch gas saw, get one and stop complaining. A SmartCar cannot race a Shelby Mustang, and is not meant to.

This saw has adequate cutting power for most heavy pruning and similar uses, but if you plan to lop and fell several trees or cut firewood you’ll need several BW cordless tools so that you have enough batteries. Heavy cutting – that is, limbs and trunks four inches or more in diameter – will drain a battery in about fifteen minutes. A hundred 1-1/2″ braches on one battery is optimistic to say the least. You can lop and fell a typical tree with a 6 inch, maybe 8 inch, bole with one battery, maybe, but you’ll need two to be sure. I’ve cut up two 12 inch trees with it but it was difficult and took two days for each tree. If I had a lot of such work to do I would buy a gasoline or propane powered unit with a large bar. However, on light work this saw is excellent, is very light and much quieter than a gasoline saw, less tiring to use, and less trouble to maintain. I plan to buy the pole version shortly, so I guess that means I’m satisfied.

1 Star Leaky product
We recently purchased this through Amazon. The chain saw leaks oil terribly – it’s awful. Plus, it was missing the needed Allen wrench tool that was supposed to come with it.

It cuts ok but be prepared to store carefully. I would not put oil in the holder – we’ll be doing what another reviewer said – mannually oiling the chain from now on.

2 Stars Don’t expect much
This is the first electric chain saw I’ve used – and it will be the last. It took me three days to cut a couple fallen tree branches (15′ long,8″ diameter) into fire logs. Yes…three days. The battery pack lasted just long enough to make about 3 cuts – then it needed to be recharged. My recommendation – if you can handle a gas mower – stick with it. If not, stock up on battery packs – because you’re going to need them for this chainsaw. As for me, I’m going back to gas.

4 Stars Makita NiMH Battery
Price was very competitive, delivery was fast, and availability was excellent. A good product for a good tool!

5 Stars Great value
Needed an extra battery for a cordless drill. The cost was less that I could have gotten in a store.

5 Stars Stick with Makita
Stick with Makita batteries for your Makita power tools. Amazon with the free shipping is the best price for a OEM Makita battery. Those off brands will not last very long and you will not get the most out of your Makita tools.

5 Stars EXCELLENT
Delivered promptly – works just fine. Expensive though. Can’t do anything about that.

5 Stars Exact replacement
After a failed e-bay purchase of aftermarket Li-on batteries I went back to OEM Ni-MH. These work exactly as they should. I wish the extra juice of the Lithium batteries was there but my original Ni-MH set lasted for very many years so I really can’t complain. I noticed after all the problems I had with the ebay Li-on batteries they are no longer being sold so I’m guessing I wasn’t alone.

5 Stars New Battery for Old Makita
I got my Makita drill used, several years ago, when a sheet metal construction group replaced their old Makitas with a newer version. My Makita came with two batteries. Recently, just when my sons were beginning a project during which my Makita would be used extensively, one of the old batteries died. I found a 9-3/5-Vold NiCad replacement battery on Amazon; the price was very good, so I ordered two of this item.

The batteries arrived in excellent condition, in the time frame promised. I am very pleased to report that my old Makita is acting like a new drill with the new batteries, and my sons’ project has gone much more quickly because of the “new energy” these batteries provide.

5 Stars Makita Battery
Order one of these. No complaints. It is a Makita brand battery and it appears to be exactly like my old Makita battery. Works great.

5 Stars Makita 192638-6 9120 NiCad pod style battery
My husband was very happy and satisfied (I would say delighted) with this product and Amazon, and he doesn’t usually like to order by internet or catalog!

5 Stars Electric drill battery
The Makita pod style electric rechargable battery is great and at a good price. Arrived in good time.

5 Stars renewed energy
brought my drill back to like new performance. I’m a boat mechanic and use my drill and flashlight all day long. After 5 years the old batteries needed constant charging so i broke down and bought one. I was glad i did and you will be too!

DeWalt DC9091 XRP 14 4 Volt 2 4 Amp Hour NiCad Pod Style Battery

41s5 ujDG7L. SL75 DeWalt DC9091 XRP 14 4 Volt 2 4 Amp Hour NiCad Pod Style Battery

Step up to the extra power of the DeWALT14.4-volt XRP battery pack. This high-capacity NiCad (nickel cadmium) battery delivers 40 percent more run time than standard NiCads. That means you can work longer—drive more screws, bore more holes—and spend less time swapping out and recharging batteries.

The XRP pack, which stands for eXtended Run-time Performance, will fit all of DeWALT’s 14.4-volt cordless tools and chargers, except its Univolt tools. Finally, remember to recycle your old batteries. –Joseph Truini

What’s in the Box
One rechargeable 14.4-volt XRP NiCad (nickel-cadmium) battery

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Dewalt 14.4 volt battery
The price for these batteries was very reasonable compared to the full price. I would recommend these to anyone needing new 14.4 volt Dewalt batteries.

5 Stars Vince
These XRP batteries are a lot better than the original battery if your drill was made after about 1999. My original batteries only lasted about 3-4 years on my new drill (purchased 2004). I have a Dewalt 14.4V I bought in 1994 and still use the original batteries. One word of caution, the XRP batteries will not fit in the older drill case whether on or off the drill because they are larger. The older case has a more molded appearance on the inside and is double wall plastic.

5 Stars DeWalt 14.4v NiCad replacement battery
I was disappointed in the DeWalt 14.4 volt batteries that came with my drill/driver. When one totally died during a project I sent my wife out to get a replacement battery. She returned with a NiCad version which I loved. It holds a charge extremely well and lasts much, much longer between charges. I was so impressed that I got a second one and recycled my remaining (operable) original battery. It makes using the drill much more practicle.

5 Stars DeWalt Battery
There’s not much to say it’s a battery, but so far it seems to be working great

5 Stars Great power, high output
Bought a set of DeWalt tools, which included two XRP 14.4v batteries and a charger over four years ago. I didn’t really use the set much until the last two years, when I suddenly had a couple of backyard projects. These batteries pack quite a charge, and provides plenty of power and duration, especially for the reciprocating saw and trim saw. Unfortunately, last weekend one of the batteries died out and wouldn’t take a charge anymore (it’s been on the wane for a couple months before that). I’m hoping the other one will continue to work, but now I’m stuck with only one working battery. I came nowhere near the advertised 1,200 charge/discharge cycles, so that was disappointing.

I’ve had these units for more than four years, so I can’t complain about one dying. While I agree that these batteries are excellent, and should be priced accordingly, I’m not sure they need to be quite that expensive. There are companies that’ll rebuild the battery pack, typically with longer-lasting sub-C cells, for less than the cost of a new one (but admittedly not by much). Based on trade reviews, the rebuilds either meet or exceed specifications, and I’m leaning that way not so much for the cost savings, but for the extended runtime.

So, in summary, these are absolutely great batteries. The NiCad technology is proven, dependable, and is suited well for high drain devices such as power tools. However, given the relative cost and simplicity of manufacturing a unit, you should be able to get more performance for less from a reputable battery rebuilder.

EDIT (12/04/2009): Bought a DeWalt DC9310 charger DeWalt DC9310 Heavy-Duty 7.2 Volt – 18 Volt 1 Hour Charger to replace DC9116 charger. The DC9310 was able to charge the dead DC9091 to ~12 volts consistently, indicating two dead cells. Battery is now usable again, but at 12 volts. While not ideal, it was good enough for me to effectively operate all the tools, thus extending the life of the battery.
