2 Stars Great phone – when it works!
Purchased this item (Clarity Professional #C4230, Revision H on August 14, 2009. Received item August 19th. Handset quit on September 26th. The base unit (speakerphone) continues to function. This morning I telephoned Plantronics customer service and explained the issue. CS rep bypassed any attempt to diagnose problem, just advised me to return the phone to their Chattanooga address and stated I would receive a complete new phone. I can’t complain about the replacement but I can complain about the shipping cost I’ll eat and effort involved. I had reservations ordering this items due to the high percentag of dissatisfied user reviews who had ordered this item and had experienced malfunctions similiar to mine. Also I see Amazon has recently reduced the price of this item. Buyer beware! I got stuck with a turkey!

This phone amplifies sound well. I am now able to hear those calling me – even when it is a three way conversation. A bit expensive but worth it to me. I really enjoy keeping in contact with my family by phone.

I purchased the Clarity 5.8 GHz Professional Amplified Cordless Phone Clarity 5.8 GHz Professional Amplified Cordless Phone with DCP and Digital Answering Machine (C4230)for my mother who is deaf without her hearing aids. She was experiencing problems in getting her hearing aids synchronized with a standard phone making it impossible to have a phone conversation with her.

Now with this phone all she has to do is push one button and the caller’s voice comes over a clear and loud speaker in the phone allowing her to have a normal conversation.

I wish that I had found this phone years ago.

Strongly recommended for telephone hearing aid. Rather complex programming, but worth any difficulties.

1 Star If only it worked consistently!
We purchased a C4230 base unit plus three C4230HS handset units for my parents in their 80’s. They were having trouble seeing their phones, hearing, and we were having trouble hearing them. This is a fantastic system — when it works. Unfortunately, after 6+ months of troublesome resets (taking out batteries and constantly rebooting) we’re pretty much ready to throw it all in the trash (over $500 wasted!). Technical support has never been able to solve the problems that keep arising, but the handsets keep losing signal from their bases. Whenever this happens, the batteries must be removed… including from the base unit handset AND answering machine. It’s a royal pain — especially for someone in their 80’s who just want simplicity. I feel so bad having ever put this whole system in my parents home now. Would not recommend buying until you read consistent reviews that these glitches have been resolved.

Using this phone with ooma and it works great. Only knocks are – base unit needs headset plug and lit keypad. Otherwise the sound quality has been great.

3 Stars Good answering machine; poor phone
I bought this phone primarily because I needed a two-line answering machine and it’s far cheaper to buy one with a phone. The answering machine is great — good sound, easy to use, allows erasure of just one message at a time.

The sound on the handsets is not good — it’s as if someone has tried too hard to capture every sound and all that background sound competes with the voice, making it difficult to hear. I do not rely on this phone as my primary office or home phone — and I am glad, for this reason!

3 Stars Good phone but important wall mount option missing
This phone has many pros and few cons as others have described in much detail. For my kitchen I needed to replace my old cordless answering system with newer but similar options. I was disappointed as this phone has no WALL mount option(not take kitchen counter space). Because this phone system can not wall mountable, I bought RCA 25250RE1 DECT 6.0 1.9-GHz Cordless Phone system.

I buy this phone because my house is very big and in the second floor the signal of the 2.4 and 5.8 cant reach. I hope that this dect 6.0 technology works but the reach is the same that 2.4 and i cant use this product and gifted to my brother. The only technology that works is the old 900mhz and i buy a pair of this phones..because the older its better.

4 Stars Just like the Avaya at work.
At work, we have the Avaya VOIP phone system and this headset is the exact same headset (under the Avaya name) as our company hands out. Well, my wife works tech support for our company and works at least 1 day at home every week. So when I was looking for a “practical” Christmas gift for her, I bought her this. It works just like the work system, which we already knew she liked and works with the home phone. Here are some pros and cons:

Pros:

- Comfortable. So comfortable in fact that I have to remind my wife sometimes that the day’s over and she can take off the headset – she’s just walking around after work with it on.

- Long battery life. They’re not joking when they say 10 hours on the box. It’ll easily last you all day – especially if you drop it back on its cradle during lunch.

- Good sound quality. Aim the boom at your mouth and it’s as good as a corded phone.

- Easy to use. Simple single clicks on the buttons pick up, hang up, and mute – about the flattest learning curve there is.

- No mucking about with mechanical handset lifters or other 20th century Rube Goldberg solutions they used to use – this is a simple, clean way to do a headset.

Cons:

- The instructions could be a little clearer. While they have pictures for everything, it’s not always clear what wire they’re talking about when you go to plug them into the base. Not horrible, but the drawings could be a tad clearer (after all, you’re trying to find a black hole on black plastic to plug a black wire into, so clarity is a plus here).

- Not really a con, but it’s odd that the manufacturer says it’s for use with “cordless phones”. Well, this thing works with any phone since it doesn’t even plug into the phone at all! It simply has a “Y” adapter that you plug into the wall, IP phone jack, or whatever and then you plug this system into one of the jacks of the “Y” and your phone into the other. Just think of this device as an additional phone that can’t dial (you use your regular phone for that) and you’ll have it.

- Again, not a con, but something to be aware of – this does not allow you to dial out; for that, you need a regular phone. The process is simple: pick up your other phone, dial the number you want to call, then push the pick up button on the headset and hang up your regular phone and you’re good to go.

2 Stars Not for cheap Radio Shack phones
Instructions were good. Headset comfort was great. Despite trying all of the steps for removing LOUD STATIC, I was not able to get equipment to operate well.

Used my sister on the other end while I tried all of the settings. I returned this item with no problem, but I think we should be told up front that it will not work with a Radio Shack 2.4GHz phone.

5 Stars Great Headset
I work from home and am on the phone 6 – 8 hours a day and the battery lasts with no problem. Good range, allows me to pace and waunder during boring meetings. I have a minor hearing loss and the headset compensates well for that by kicking up the optional advanced volume setting. I’ve never been able to wear an ear loop headset comfortably for long, which is why I selected this model. I did try the ear loop, and there are 3 styles, but it just doesn work for me after hours on the phone.

5 Stars An excellent choice!
I have had this headset for about 3 months now. I initially went with the BlueParrot bluetooth headset to save some money but was unsatisfied and returned it.

This unit is not cheap but it works perfectly for me. I have DSL on the same line this headset is on, and even with a DSL filter I have had sound quality issues with various cordless phones I have used. This headset is essentially a phone with no dial pad. Sound quality and range are excellent. The volume can be controlled well and it gets loud enough, an issue I have had with other headsets. No interference with my wireless internet set up.

Other folks have commented on the “beeps” when the phone is muted. I personally consider this a very good feature. Because the headset is wireless there is no easy way to tell if you are muted when away from the base. (You can’t look for a blinking light.)The beeps are very faint and I personally do not find them distracting at all, although others have commented that they do.

The unit comes with multiple options to attach to your ear or with a headband. I had to experiment with these for a few days before I found one that worked. After the first day my ear was a little sore but after I used it for several days it felt like a perfect fit.

All in all I am very happy with this unit.

5 Stars Great addition for the home office
We bought this after reading the reviews at Amazon. We knew to buy the headset with the cordless phone adapter (yeah!!) and knew there were issues with the advertised range. We’ve used the headset for a month now and are happy with our purchase. We often work from home on our laptops. Calling in to participate in meetings that last anywhere from 10 minutes to 3 hours, this headset is an ergonomic and lifestyle lifesaver! We no longer use the speaker button on the cordless phone or waste valuable ‘prime’ minutes using the headset on our cell phones.

We’ve run into beeping in the headset that advises us that we are ‘out of range’ but we’ve never actually been cut off or had the sound degraded because we were out of range. The out of range notification beeps run about every 10 – 15 minutes so it isn’t so annoying that I have been unable to complete my business normally.

2 Stars Phones only recharge from one base
I have had this phone for a couple of months. I assumed that each handset would recharge from a base, but they only recharge on the control or main base. I have to remember to switch out phones from one base to the next daily or they run out of battery.

I also find that the controls from erasing messages, etc aren’t user friendly. I would never purchase this phone again.

5 Stars Great phone, excellent speaker and hands free capability!
We had a Panasonic model for many years, very similar to this model, but the batteries with the old phone was an issue so I shopped around and settled on this model primarily because of the number of positive reviews I read. We are thrilled with our new Panasonic phones! We love the numerous ring tones available, creating the phonebook was easy and transferred easily to all the other handsets with no problems, all features are working just fine but the best part for us is the speaker phone! The clarity is great and people on the other end of the line don’t think we are talking from inside a tin can. The people we are talking to sound clear and loud through the speaker phone — this can be a huge issue with other phones. So far, battery life is impressive, and the answering machine is fine as well. We highly recommend this model.

I bought this unit to add to the other two I have. This unit connects easily and is easy to use. The range is excellent and the clarity is great. I can easily work out in the garage or yard with no problems. The intercom feature is very useful too. I recommend this product!

We’ve had three of these phones for over 2 years now and just added this handset so we could intercom our teen in her bedroom. Adding the songs and photos to really make this your own is a bit time consuming but I love knowing who is on the line based on the song/rintone that is playing. Even without customizing, the caller ID works well. Sound is clear and range is great even with multiple other wireless gagets in the house. Phone is lightweight and handset is comfortable to hold (one of my first criteria in buying a phone). The answering machine is easy as well. We’ve had no issues with this phone and would purchase similar product again but really can’t see where we’ll have a need anytime soon. Also battery life is very good. We often leave these off the handset for 24 hrs or more and only once have we had one alert us to low battery.

5 Stars NICE PHONE, GREAT PRICE!
I bought this phone, but I have been unable to use it. I should have read that it was an expandable phone that needs the base phone (MAIN) phone in order to operate properly. I have searched for the main base phone, but have not been able as yet to purchase one. So alas, the phone sits in the original box it came in. My fault, should have read all the print first!

I love this phone. This the best phone I ever had. Great looks, great performance and features. I have 6 handsets in addition to the base one and 2 cameras they all work great. Intercom is great as well and very “easy-to-use”. Screen would have been nicer with a little better resolution.
