I’m looking for a "cheap" (or relatively so) cordless phone WITH an answering machine, and on this one product I found at Amazon, it says "Answering system: Yes, with compatible base unit" on the list of item specs. What the heck does that mean? Do I need to buy a "compatible base unit" with the item or what??

Time to replace the old! I need something that is durable, not a lite-weight phone, with multiple handsets, 5.8 ghz, that I can program in our phone book and have those numbers ring differently when they call the house. An answering machine would be okay, but is not necessary. Also, a speakerphone is a must, because that way we always know where *one* phone is <lol>

Main needs
Reception through the whole house
Distinct ring for programmed numbers
A nice weight to the handsets
Speakerphone
Answering system optional

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars this is a fine phone
If this phone has the features your looking for then buy it. it’s easy to use, does everything the ad says and nothing more.

3 Stars programing nightmare
Unit works well. Inconvenient to figure out where you have to program, hand set or base set. Light on base set that identifies a message is almost impossible to see unless you are on top of the machine.

3 Stars Panasonic 6.0 combo
Product functions well but its missing a few features. I expected it to have- timer/ clock and also the speaker phone volume is low, even when at max.

4 Stars Highly Recommend
Very attractive styling with all the features I was looking for. Finish is a medium silvery metallic grey, unlike product photos that look darker. Corded base phone works during power outgages which are nowadays frequent in many places because of overtaxed electrical grid. Easy menu-type programming, but don’t lose the manual. Handset charged up quickly and you can purchase additionally sets. I only needed one for the living room. You can page between phones. Base phone can be wall mounted. Choice of a couple ringer tones and I like the melodic bell tone sound versus the annoying typical ring tone. Great no-disturb “Z” feature allows you to shut off the ringer late at night til wake-up, but any calls and messages will still be received. The 6.0 sound quality is superb for all calls I’ve experienced local, out of state and international. You can record your own greeting or use the default recording which I prefer – typical brief voicemail message in English. Wish they offered a duplicate in Spanish. One con is the tiny red blinking message light which you can’t see from across the room. The advertised “Call Block” feature will prevent any unwanted or harassment calls from ringing, and disconnect them, after their numbers are programmed into the phone. But this only works if you subscribe to, and pay your phone company for Caller ID every month. I researched similar AT&T and G.E. phone sets, but chose Panasonic. Slightly more expensive, but worthwhile for the 6.0 sound quality, features, and more attractive design.

4 Stars Nice and small
I replaced my older Panasonic 2 line business phone with this one. This one is a lot smaller which saves a lot of space on my desk. So far the phone works nice. Speaker phone is not as loud as my older model. I don’t like having to press multiple buttons just to view the caller ID list. The biggest drawback of this phone is it does NOT have an earphone jack anywhere on it. I was mistaken/mislead when I bought it that it did have one. Only the cordless companion has this jack.

2 Stars Disappointing
I did lots of research on phones because we’ve had terrible luck lately in this department. These phones were rated very highly so I bit the bullet and purchased them when they went on sale.

They work for a couple of months but the handsets eventually stop connecting to the base. And when they do connect, they cut in a out to where the person on the other end can’t understand what you are saying.

I just want a decent phone that works, but this is not it.

5 Stars Panasonic KX-TG1032S
I had done the research and am very happy with our phones. Everything as described and promised. The one thing missing is the lighted keypad, which I knew about, and the only other problem I’ve had is confusing it with our TV remote, as it is nearly the same size and shape – the handsets are even smaller- very slim and sleek. We’re happy with our choice, and our (techno-savvy) grown kids may be ordering the same model after seeing ours.

4 Stars So far ,so good!
Purchased a different Panasonic about 5 years ago mainly for the ease of installment. Disappointed that it didn’t last any longer. Hopefully, this one will. Loved the price though!!

3 Stars Phone is OK but the usable +range is a little dissappointing.
The functionality of the phone and answering machine are first rate with no complaints, the usable range of the hand sets is a bit disappointing, I would say you start to loose signal at about 65 feet with three interior walls.

I have a much older Panasonic answering machine with remote hand sets that has external antenna’s and those have an outstanding range, I can talk on the phone inside a metal barn about 200′ from the base unit that is inside a house with one of those older hand sets.

4 Stars Very Satisfied
I have been using this system for a month and am quite pleased with it. It is easy to use and the instructions are clear. I really appreciate the battery life because my last Panasonic cordless system would hardly hold a charge before it finally bit the dust. The size of the handset is perfect for me and much better than my last cordless handset. I would definitely recommend this system for anyone who doesn’t require lots of different functions beyond what this system delivers. I like the duel handset too. This system is quite nice.
